Northern Pike: THE KING of the Freshwater Sportsfish
Say what you will about sturgeon or musky, as far as we are concerned the northern pike is the king of the freshwater sportsfish. Stalking their prey along the edges of cabbage weed beds, waiting in the crevices of rock piles jutting out into deeper water or staying at the periphery of large schools of pelagic fish darting in to grab an unsuspecting cisco. You have to appreciate the stealth and veracity of the water wolf. The largest northern pike caught at Milton Lake Lodge to date was 35 pounds! That is a huge fish. Your chance at landing a trophy sized 40″+ fish are very good, especially after the spring spawn. At this time you can target them in the shallower flats and sight fish for the trophy females that are absolutely ravenous.
